About
A journey to music
Christina Ellison is a coloratura soprano with a flair for entertaining. She was introduced to classical music through her mother Iona McDonald, a viola player in the ASO. At 12, she began formal lessons in classical singing, until the end of High School. She then completed a certificate in contemporary music and drama at Excel school of Performing arts, before eventually returning to classical music. This was through a life changing production of Pirates of Penzance (2014) at Torbay Theatre, where she played the lead role of Mabel. Since then, she has completed her Bachelor of Music with first class Honours, Majoring in Classical performance voice and has celebrated a recent success of coming first in the Becroft Grand Aria competition (2020). When not performing as a featured soloist in concerts and theatre shows or as part of the trio Con Amore, she teaches voice and performs opera on the streets of Auckland, sharing her love of opera with the masses.
